On Sunday, August 2, our Reincarnation Research team hosted a live Zoominar featuring keynote speaker Kevin Ryerson — trance channel, author of Spirit Communication, and longtime collaborator of our founder, Dr. Walter Semkiw. Attendees joined us from all over the country — Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, Florida, North Carolina, Massachusetts, and beyond — for a talk Kevin titled “New Principles in Reincarnation.”

A Growing Conversation

Kevin frames his own life’s work as bridging science and spirituality — a field he playfully calls “theoanthropology” — and he reminded us that reincarnation is not foreign to Western traditions. From the Kabbalah to the Sufis to Origen of Alexandria, from Plato to Edgar Cayce, the West has always had its voices for the soul’s continuity.

Kevin opened with a look at how far the public dialogue has come. When his work with Shirley MacLaine first brought reincarnation into Western living rooms, roughly 17% of the U.S. population held some belief in reincarnation. Today, after decades of research by Dr. Ian Stevenson, Dr. Walter Semkiw, and others, that figure has grown to somewhere between 27% and 32% — across a full range of demographics and faith traditions. Even Carl Sagan, one of science’s most famous skeptics, considered Stevenson’s research worthy of further scientific investigation.

Karma Has a Twin, and Its Name Is Dharma

The heart of the talk was a gentle correction to how most of us think about karma. Karma is not a system of punishment and reward — as Kevin put it, “the divine is not a behaviorist.” Karma is simply a system of exact accounting; how it plays out is up to the growth of the soul. A soul who once caused harm may return not to be punished, but as a healer.

That’s where dharma comes in: the talents and abilities we have refined across lifetimes, which become our right livelihood — a source of well-being for ourselves, our families, and our communities. Kevin illustrated this with the story of a monk who found enlightenment not on the meditation cushion, but back in the garden he had always loved, the moment a stone flipped from his rake and struck a bamboo shoot with one perfect sound.

Other principles Kevin explored:

• All souls are born innocent. Each lifetime begins with a clean slate, in the sense that the veil of forgetting is a mercy, not a curse. (Editor’s Note: Not in the sense that all the karmic seeds and habitual propensities are erased.)
• Enlightenment can visit us in any moment — and may already have. The practice is remembering that “perfect note” so it can retune your whole inner orchestra.
• Your personality is not an ego or a barrier between you and the divine. It is “the language by which the soul communicates in the earth plane.”
• Dreams are a royal road — not just to the subconscious, as Freud said, but to memory itself. A third of your life in sleep can become a doorway to recall.
• The tunnel of light is not only for the dying. Depicted as far back as Hieronymus Bosch‘s Ascent of the Blessed, it is a natural capacity of consciousness for enlightenment — accessible through meditation, not only in near-death experience.

A Case Study: New Tools for Past-Life Discovery

Kevin closed with a working case study from our own team. Our team member Chuck McMurray shared a past-life regression memory he’d carried for years: a life as a mechanic who built fast cars for men who ran on the wrong side of the law. In an intuitive conversation, Kevin reframed the memory — not a criminal, but a builder of fast cars for the moonshine trade of the 1920s and ’30s South.

Using an AI personality model built on the Big Five framework — part of the research toolset Chuck and Kevin have been developing — the search surfaced a candidate: Louis Jerome “Red” Vogt, the legendary early stock-car mechanic whose garage stood at the roots of NASCAR. Chuck, a lifelong drag racer who had never followed NASCAR, had no prior knowledge of Vogt.

The synchronicities that followed were striking: side-by-side photographs at matching ages; Vogt’s 1930s garage and the speed shop Chuck opened on his own in 2020; two business logos, each featuring an automobile and the word “Red”/”Ready”; even a shared habit of working on engines in white T-shirts.

None of this is offered as proof — in the tradition of Dr. Stevenson, we say the evidence is suggestive of reincarnation. But it is a compelling demonstration of how adult memories, intuition, and modern research tools can work together in a responsible discovery process.

As Kevin encouraged the group: “Don’t be afraid to use the tools that we have here in the 21st century for tracing past lives… they will be a deep insight into the personality you have now, which is the language of the soul.”

The Q&A ranged wide: dreams and past-life recall, the nonlinearity of time (“a pool out of which you can pull up the past, the present, and the future”), Ganzfeld telepathy experiments and quantum entanglement, communication with the future self, parallel lives, and how reincarnation research may one day intersect with DNA and genomics.
